The Centre was originally set up in 1979 as Hampshire Development Education Centre and was relaunched on 14th May 2008 with its new name The Centre for Global Awareness.

It offers various services to help bring a global viewpoint to schools, teachers and other educators in Hampshire and neighbouring Southampton and Portsmouth. The Centre is supported by DFID, The Sainsbury Family Trust, Hampshire County Council, Portsmouth City Council, Southampton City Council and The Co-operative Society
