SUSTAINABLE SCHOOLS FOR A FAIRER WORLD
Beyond recycling projects
CONFERENCE held on 23rd October 2009

Jonathon Porritt opened the Conference with an impassioned speech, which included many thought provoking comments. His first profession was that of a teacher and it was this, combined with his interest in environmental issues, which set him on his long and inspiring journey. He believes that the school children of today will witness, at first hand, the true extent of global warming, and that the problem cannot be addressed by means of ‘business as usual’. Radical action is needed sooner rather than later.

Following Jonathon’s introduction, delegates were involved in a number of workshops before and after lunch. Post-Conference evaluation indicated that the day was informative, enjoyable and worthwhile. At the end of the Conference delegates were presented with a recycled bag, produced by Gigdev (a girls co-operative in Northern Ghana), containing books, brochures and samples provided by supporting organisations. The bags are available for purchase from the Centre for £5 (contents not included).
